Act now to SAVE water, our FUTURE is in danger !!

According to a report by Niti, Aayog India is going through ‘the worst water crisis’ in the history with 60 crore people facing high to extreme water stress & about 2 lac people dying due to inadequate access to safe water. According to the statistics, India has only 4% of the global freshwater available on the whole planet. At this rate, it is predicted that by 2040, there would be no fresh water left. Hence prioritization should be changed and the action should be taken immediately.

Farmers don’t have an adequate amount of water to properly grow their crops and have to rely on the rain which is very unpredictable. About 54% of the total population is under drought and exceptionally dry areas consist of 6% which is a significant 4 times rise from the 1.5% in the previous year and at this rate, we will go waterless soon.

India has the highest groundwater depletion rate globally. This has led to colder winters and hotter summers. The seasonal crops are getting less rainfall and the average temperature is gradually rising as a whole. Hence these statistics are enough to prove that we are heading towards climate imbalance.

Consumable water is also slowly running out. At this rate of consumption, it can only be sustained up to a few years and we need to act now to conserve water before it’s too late.

One of the many ways in which we can conserve water is “Car Wash”. On an average one-car takes about 100 to 200 litres of water when it is washed, either in a garage or a service centre. Even while washing it with a pipe it consumes around 60 to 70 litres of water in a single car wash.

When we wash with a bucket, it takes 2 buckets of 18-20 litres of water per bucket, that comes to 36-40 litres of water which is used every day for a single-car washed by the driver or the watchman.

Let us calculate a society which has 100 cars and washes their car with the bucket system, it takes around 36 litres per car, it comes to 3600 litres of water every day. On a yearly scale, it comes to around 13,14,000 ( thirteen lacs fourteen thousand ) litres of water used per year in a society of 100 cars. This number is at the minimum estimation as we have assumed only 2 buckets for it to be washed and using a pipe to clean the car actually increasing the water usage to multiple times.

This calculation was just for one society and when you multiply this figure with the total number of societies in the country. The figure goes to Billions of litres of water. The number becomes absurdly high and we should realize how much water we waste on a car wash. This water is enough to quench the thirst of the entire country. Also, this water can be used to put into other uses.

Now the question arises, how we can clean our car without water ??

The answer is simple – Go Waterless !!
